This national award-winning educational children's picture
book series was created by Lauren McNerney Stinnett, with her mother, Esther Barker McNerney
(photographs) and her sister, Kristen McNerney Tincher (graphic design).
Lauren lives in Louisville, Kentucky with her husband and
three children (ages eight, seven and two
years). Lauren is a Kindergarten teacher. Her goal is to promote early childhood literacy and make
it fun to learn to read! Her son, Tyler, inspired her to create and write these books. When he was a toddler,
Lauren received an accordion-style florist brochure in the mail. Tyler was so intrigued with the
accordion-style format that he continued to play with the brochure for weeks until it fell apart! Lauren tried to find
an accordion-style picture book for pre-readers in bookstores, libraries and toy stores with no luck. She then approached
her mother, Esther [because she wanted to use photographs], and her sister, Kristen [for graphic design], about
writing and publishing an accordion-style children's picture book series. The idea became a reality in 2007 when
the first title, AT THE ZOO, was published.
Esther lives in her hometown, Louisville, Kentucky with her husband and youngest
son (last one to put through college!). They have four children and four grandchildren. Esther was Vice President
of Sales for a medical device manufacturing company for thirteen years and retired ten years ago to pursue her true love,
photography. She has been an active volunteer in her community for more than a decade having served on several boards
of charitable organizations. One of her favorite endeavors has been as a volunteer at Kosair Children's Hospital,
Louisville, Kentucky and serving on the boards of Kosair Children's Hospital Auxiliary and the Children's Hospital Foundation. Another
amazing experience for her has been as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer to advocate
for the safety and well-being of abused and neglected children in the court system. Esther's passion for photography was nurtured from her college days on by her father, an engineer, who was an avid photography
hobbyist. She had been encouraged by family and friends for years to "do something with her photography" and
she finally did!
Kristen
lives in Louisville, Kentucky with her husband, twenty month old daughter, their Labrador Retriever, Bertie, and horse, Mariposa.
Kristen has worked in graphic design and marketing for eight years. She loves spending time with her
family the most but also enjoys playing polo, hiking, and advocating for homeless animals. The
best news is that Kristen is expecting her second child in September 2013!
Both Lauren and Kristen feel very blessed to have such healthy, wonderful children.
Lauren, Esther and Kristen formed
McNerney Publications, LLC, in 2007 to launch their unique award-winning accordion-style picture books for children,
promoting literacy for pre-readers of all abilities. More books are coming! Lauren, Esther and Kristen are committed
to supporting special needs children's charities through donations, especially research and treatment of Autism/Autism
Spectrum Disorders.
